Rome (Ostia) — Palermo

The best way for this is to join the festive Mediterranean voyage of the “Shtandart”!

We have such a good tradition to go sailing on the 31st of December (this year – to Sicily), and this is a good omen to make the whole year lucky and happy.

First of all come to Ostia, the ancient seaside suburb of Rome (unfortunately we can’t moor closer to the Colosseum because there is no sea there). But on the other hand, our harbour is within a few kilometres of the Fiumicino airport, so you may come to the ship directly (by taxi or even by foot). 

Ostia is famous because of the world's first preserved apartment blocks – the ancient insulas. There were no kitchens there, inhabitants had to go out for a meal, so this place has centuries-old restaurant traditions. But don’t spend too much time in the seaside bars and pizzerias – that’s time to follow the sea!

So find the tall masts under the Russian flag and welcome on board! Now you are a real sailor of the 18th century. Watches and hammocks, rigging and rolling, sailors songs and new harbours – that’s now your life for the following week.

After the basic training of seamanship let’s head to the high sea and set sails. Our first destination is Naples, birthplace of Maradona, city of pizza, romances, guitars and mandolins. Naples is a heady brew of romantic, hedonism and festivity – a perfect place to see off the departing year. 

Let’s fire the cannons and open champagne, decorate the New Year tree, sing and dance. But by chime of bells we should already come to Sicily.

Then let’s “plunder” the city – there is a lot of great stuff to do. Palaces and castles, luxurious villas and abandoned cabins, lazy sicilian cats and picturesque gateways, shops, markets and bars – attractions suited to every fancy.
