510 nautical miles

Sum and substance
Second part of our journey to the Baltic. Leaving Amsterdam behind we run across a small part of the North Sea and enter the Baltic. 500 nautical miles later we’d be in Scszecin, Poland, at yet another tall ship festival.

This week will be all about nitty-gritty of sailboat handling; be it a small dinghy or a three-masted frigate. We’d have plenty of open seas and narrow canals, docking in ports and passing the locks. So if you’re up for it, you can learn a whole bunch about working the sails and the engine. Which sails work best in which situation, how to beat your way upwind, how to use docking lines and propeller spinning direction and so on.

Itinerary
Right after we leave Amsterdam we’d be confronted with a choice of a route. We can go by the open North Sea or by the inner Dutch waters passing Lelystad, Kornwerderzand and Texel. Then a dash to the German island Heligoland. Then Elba river and 100 km of Kiel canal towards the Baltic. There we’ll set a course East, go around Rügen island and arrive to Scszecin.
