200 nautical miles

You would think that after all these years Costa del Sol, the southern Spanish coast, would be familiar grounds. But this season Shtandart continues to discover new towns and marinas.

The trip from Torrevieja to Motril is going to be pleasant and relaxing.  It’s southern Spring, so we’re going to have warm day watches and starry night ones.  Swimming in the open seas, climbing the masts to the blue cloudless skies, sunbathing under snow-white sails.

Itinerary
It’s just 200 miles from Torrevieja to Motril. To us it is a relatively short distance that allows us more time for sailing, swimming and sightseeing in the small Spanish towns along the way. Depending on weather we might visit Cartagena and/or Almería. Cartagena is almost home. We have been there multiple times and even did a month of maintenance once.  Cartagena greets the ships with tall and steep rocks at the entrance but in the city itself there’s a park with peacocks, the ancient amphitheater and lots and lots of cozy bars and cafes.

Sail training
Every trip aboard Shtandart, even a short one, means setting and hoisting sails, bracing the yards, and standing watch at the helm. You are no passenger!

The amount of knowledge you can gain is totally up to you. Our watch officers and the Captain are eager to share their experience, so pile them up with questions! Knots, modern and traditional navigation, radio communications, sail trim – you can learn about it, see how it works and try it out yourself.
