3(!) Maritime Festivals – The Bay of Biscay – The English Channel – France

Have you ever imagined what it is like to be a travelling performer? The best romantic part of that life? Always on the road, new countries, cities and towns, new acquaintances and old friends, a rowdy festival everywhere you go?

There is a book about the crew of Shtandart travelling from festival to festival in an old frigate. Link. The characters and events are made up the spirit of the ship and personalities are quite recognizable.

We invite you to try this life out for yourself. Welcome to the crew!

The journey starts in Bordeaux, at the wine festival. (Please do remember that underway this is an alcohol free ship, but in port, safely dockside, you can have a glass of good wine for your health and pleasure.) Next we’re bound for a maritime celebration in Calais. We have 600 miles to go across the Bay of Biscay and along the English Channel and just 5 days to do it, so we have to get ourselves in gear. Then 3 days in Calais, open ship, many guests aboard and fireworks in the night. And back at sea again!

This time it’s just 130 miles and yet another maritime festival. Busy, rowdy and fun.

This trip is very different from the previous ones in Spring. Albeit you’re going to have as many watches, and as much sail handling and climbing aloft as before, there is going to be a new meaning to them. Festival days both colorful and strenuous, packed with events, are going to be mixed into the usual sailing routine.

We love that life and wouldn’t trade it for anything! Today we’d like to share it with you!

Ever wanted to be a character from an adventure story? Here’s your chance.
