Fort Boyard – Île d'Yeu – sailing up Gironde – Wine Festival

La Rochelle – Bordeaux route is not long in terms of distances, but it’s quite diverse contentwise. After taking a rest in La Rochelle, we will once again sail to the Bay of Biscay – on high waters and favorable currents. We will see a famous Fort Boyard on the horizon (and maybe we will come up to it closer and will salute out of the ship cannon).

Then we will follow a practice route alongside the French shores. It is not important what will the intermediate point be like, depending on weather, we will choose the most interesting route for a marine practice. For instance, we can call at Port Joinville or Île d'Yeu and drop anchor.

After rocking on the waves, practicing sailing all in the wind and turning, we will set the course to the Gironde estuary.

We will sail up 80 miles adrift to berth in the coast at the center of Bordeaux. Of course, we will come just in time to sail via Gironde with a favorable high tide current; we will stay for a night midway.

We plan to call at Bordeaux early in the morning of 18th, we are very much anticipated at the Wine Festival! We will berth steadily, open the ramp for the public and will dedicate the last journey days to participating in the festival!

Amount of new knowledge and skills depends on your energy and enthusiasm. Shift officers and the captain will eagerly share their experience; just find time to ask your questions! Knots, modern and traditional navigation, marine radio communication and tricks of the sail settings – you can learn anything, see it and try it with your own hands.
